Maddie's address: 250 Florida Street, San Francisco (note that we're not in the training room, which is on Alabama, we're closer to the adoption center)
The building we're practicing in is called the old "Buy-Rite" building, and it's a few doors down from Maddie's. We'll put a sign up on the door, and it'll be propped open while we load & unload. It's next to a garage entrance. http://www.sfspca.org/map.shtml
From the East Bay Take I-80 West across the Bay Bridge. Exit at 9th Street Civic Center offramp. Make a wide left turn onto Harrison (a multi-lane, 1-way Street). Follow for approximately 6 blocks, to 16th Street. Make a left onto 16th -- we're a block up on the left.
From the Peninsula Take Highway 101 (or 280 north to the 101) north. Exit at the Vermont Street offramp. Make first left onto Vermont Street. Follow 2 blocks downhill to 16th Street. Make a left onto 16th and follow for approximately 4 block. We're on the right side, a block past the light at Bryant Street.
Notes on this Site:
To protect our brand-new mats, please please trim your dog's nails! (Sherrae, do your dogs, don't let your mom ;->) Not only will this help keep our mats (and boxes) from getting ripped, it will protect your dog's nails from getting caught and torn in the mats or boxes.
This practice room is up a few flights of stairs, so you'll probably want to travel as light as you can. Also, if you need to bring a full-sized crate, you'll need to break it down to get it through the doors. However, we can leave stuff in the room between practices, if you're comfortable leaving stuff. I think there are some chairs left over up there, so you probably won't need to bring any.
There is one big room, plus three smaller rooms. We'll use one for equipment storage. I was thinking we'd use the smaller one for crating, and close the door to try and keep the noise down (just from us, I don't think anyone else is close enough to hear us or be bothered by us).
Although we'll have the mats down (yay!), the rest of the floor is linoleum, so wear appropriate shoes. Also, the ceiling is acoustic and only 8-10 feet high. You may want to bring earplugs if you will bothered by the noise. Also, it may be cool in there at first (it's inside a giant garage), so dress in layers.
There isn't any running water in the room, so you'll want to bring your own (there is a bathroom downstairs). No water in the training room, though, only in the crate room, because of the mats and linoleum and how slippery it would get. Bring a towel or two, more if it's actually raining.
The front door to our building is locked all the time. If you are going to be late, let one of us know, so we can come let you in. The folks at Maddie's don't have a key.I'll wait at the door from 1:50 to 2:15, I think. If you're arriving at a different time, just let us know.
Parking is pretty available on the street. Do not park in the Maddie's lot! You may want to bring your cart to haul your stuff up to the door, but it won't help you on the stairs! ;->
As is usual with indoors, please be very careful with slipping, hitting the walls, and picking up tennis balls. Don't anybody let themselves or their dogs get hurt!
FROM 92 EAST:
Get off on Hesperian. Turn right (south). Turn left (east) onto Tennyson. At the second light (Calaroga) turn left. Follow Calaroga past two stop signs, then you will see a "Eden Greenway" sign on your left, and the school is immediately after that on the left.
FROM 880 SOUTH or NORTH:
Get off on Tennyson West. Turn Right on Calaroga. Follow Calaroga past two stop signs, then you will see a "Eden Greenway" sign on your left, and the school is immediately after that on the left.
Once you get to the school, there is a gate that may or may not be open to the fields. If it is open, drive your car in to unload. If it is not open (they supposedly lock it each night, but I doubt that actually happens), then you must enter near the "Eden Greenway" sign, and park on the street. There are small paved paths through the park so it will be fairly easy to cart stuff in if the gate is closed.
There is a small group of domestic rabbits living under the portables. This is not the area we will be using, but do not let your dogs off-leash to play (they will probably find these guys). Also, dogs can't be off-leash in the park with is right next to the school grounds.
Jefferson Elementary are on the same side of the road.
The Jefferson field is behind the buildings, go to the driveway on the far south side of the brick buildings. Jefferson Field is the one with the playground in the middle of it.
